New house, new niggles

I've moved down the road to a bigger house, it's nice to have more space, but the wiring and plumbing need to be re-worked this summer. It's going to be a long slog before all the rooms are nicely decorated again.

I'm still having a great deal of difficulty accessing my site reliably so updates are still infrequent I'm afraid. I'll write again as soon as I am able.

The best laid plans...

All kinds of things have conspired to delay work on the various projects here. It started with a lack of access to the site, followed by the catastrophic failure of cream, the server. The new dedicated server is solero and seems to be bedding down nicely.

The most recent confounding issue to delay my projects however, has been the rather unpleasant murder of two people in the flat above my local sandwich shop. I'm rather fond of the shop in particular, the choice is wide and the prices very good, but obviously with the police cordonning off the area, and the forensics people all over it, and then the need to thoroughly clean the place to keep the public happy, the shop has been closed for two weeks and will likely still be closed until the new year. Now I have to go much further abroad to get my sandwiches which leaves a lot less play-time around lunch.

I hope the shop gets back on its feet in the new year. I can imagine it will take quite a while to get its customers back after they have been forced to find alternate foraging grounds.

Blues and Twos

Today I feel like c*** because at 3.45 this morning I was outside my house, underdressed, and cold waiting for the fire brigade to tell me it was safe to go back inside.

In fact it was just a faulty smoke detector, but I was impressed by the arrival of no less than 3 fire appliances and blokes in breathing apparatus.

It may interest you to know that fire engines leak. This morning there are three frozen dribbles on the road outside our house. I guess if you lived REALLY far away from the fire station, there might be no water left by the time they arrived. But then if you were that far away, your house would maybe be gone by the time they arrived and they wouldn't need much water.
